Amid revolutions and wars in Artsakh, the Avetisyan family initiated KATARO wine in 2010. Under the leadership of Ernest and his son Grigori, they transformed it into a symbol of hope despite the prevailing conflicts. Overcoming challenges, the Avetisyan family, undeterred, managed to salvage the KATARO 2017 Reserve, a testament to their resilience. Out of the hardship emerged a determination to revive and rebuild, prompting the family to establish a new winery in Dzoraghbyur community with a vision supported by savings, friends, loans, and community backing.
With the addition of a new factory and advanced equipment, KATARO expanded, generating employment opportunities and fostering collaborations. The success story of KATARO is mainly attributed to the USAID-funded RED-NEO program, with the growth in sales reflecting about a 5% increase from the baseline year. It is a narrative of resilience, determination, and community spirit in reviving Artsakh’s winemaking legacy․
